Job Summary
The Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative (Dallaire Initiative) was established in 2007 by retired Lieutenant-General the Honourable Roméo Dallaire, former Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda ( UNAMIR ). Our mission is to develop new strategies and tactics to progressively end the recruitment and use of children as soldiers worldwide. As of April 2020, the Dallaire Initiative has now become the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security.
Reporting to the Director, Advocacy and Impact Advisor will develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments, external partners, and security-sector stakeholders to support the Institute’s programs, initiatives, and outreach activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research, gather information, and assist with the preparation of reports, briefing materials, presentations, and speaking notes.
- Support the coordination of advisory group meetings, including scheduling, agenda preparation, minute-taking, and follow-up on action items.
- Assist with stakeholder outreach and maintain effective communication with security sector partners, veterans, and other external contacts.
- Collect, organize, and summarize program data, impact stories, and lessons learned to support reporting and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Contribute to the development of communications, resource materials, and knowledge mobilization products that support organizational priorities.
- Provide administrative and project support for research, advocacy, training, and engagement initiatives, ensuring activities and information are well coordinated.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in social sciences, international relations peace building or security studies or in a related field, plus three years’ relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience)
- Demonstrated experience conducting research, publishing scholarly or professional articles.
- Experience working with a wide variety of stakeholders in the public sector.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in diverse, multicultural environments.
- Excellent communication, presentation, research, and writing skills, with experience delivering presentations at senior-level events and producing high-quality written materials.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet multiple deadlines, and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
