Principal Research Scientist
Avalere Health is seeking a Principal Research Scientist to join our Evidence & Strategy Practice. The practice focuses on a range of issues including developing value-based assessments and supporting evidence generation; quantitative, qualitative, and feasibility studies utilizing a broad range of open and closed source datasets; go-to-market strategies and tactics for an evidence-differentiated offering. We rely on deep subject matter expertise and understanding of the business issues facing our clients to assess how the changing healthcare evidence, market access and policy landscape impacts the pharmaceutical industry, managed care plans, providers, and consumers.
We provide analytic support and advisory services, including legislative strategy, regulatory analysis, and quantitative modeling of proposed and enacted policies to a wide range of clients across the healthcare industry.
Avalere's Evidence & Strategy practice within its Advisory capability provides exceptional consultation, evidence, and insights on key aspects of healthcare – including patient-centric HEOR, quality of care measures, shared decision making, value-based care, and health equity – to shape strategy for our clients.

What you'll do
- Perform descriptive and advanced statistical analysis using large patient and/or claims databases in support of economic and outcomes modeling to execute analysis plans and support client strategic objectives
- Design analytical studies, protocols and methods, pricing impact and health economic models
- Contribute to the development of concept proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and analysis plans
- Independently manage workflow and make direct contributions to the research and analysis process
- Work within and across organizational analytics teams to identify areas for delivering innovation to clients
About you Minimum requirements
- BA/BS or higher in computer science, economics, mathematics, statistics, data science, epidemiology, statistics or related discipline
- 10+ years of SAS or SQL programming experience
- Experience analyzing large administrative pharmacy and medical claims databases (public and private)
- Experience with importing data, transforming, cleaning, merging, and editing data and extensive quality/accuracy measures
- Working knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and/or econometric skills
- Ability to independently manage multiple work streams with limited supervision
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated problem solving, analytical reasoning and decision-making skills and strong commitment to meeting goals and deadlines
- Positive, flexible and self-motivated attitude, with excellent teamwork skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Comfortable working in a remote/hybrid environment with demonstrated ability to be productive and self-guided.
Additional Skills and Competencies
- Healthcare policy and analysis background
- Experience with analyzing healthcare survey data (e.g. Medical Expenditure Panel Survey and Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey)
- Experience with SAS Macros
- Experience with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
- Experience interpreting statistical output and analyses
$168,000 - $215,000 a year
