The (Sr.) Analyst Trade Compliance, Global Distribution and Trade is responsible for supporting the US, Canada and OUS (EU, UK, AUS, Japan, LATAM) trade compliance of medical device and pharmaceutical product managed by global 3PL partners (third party logistics) and ensures efficient and compliant movement of products through our clients Supply Chain from the contract manufacturer to the 3PL to the customer. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining Trade Compliance policies and procedures, identifying opportunities to reduce tariffs, and liaising with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies.
Day to Day responsibilities:
Audits, Regulatory Compliance and Safety
- Ensure all import/export activities comply with U.S. and other relevant national regulations, such as the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Perform denied parties screening.
- Assist with Quality audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards.
- Ensure that all activities are conducted in compliance with GdP, FDA, MHRA, HSPRA, and other healthcare regulatory agencies.
- Trade documentation: Create/Review and ensure the accuracy of all trade documents, such as proforma and commercial invoices, end user memos and export licenses.
- Review 3PL generated shipping documentation, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, Customs, DOT, IATA, and other relevant transportation laws.
- Track and document trade data in compliance with GdP documentation practices, ensuring proper records retention and easy retrieval for audits or regulatory inspections.
- Policy and procedures: Develop, update, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), training materials, and internal policies related to trade compliance.
- Lead internal and external trade audits, conduct risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities, and implement corrective actions.
Manage the process of accurately classifying goods using Harmonized System (HS) codes and determine preferential origin under Trade Agreements.
Cost reduction:
Identify and implement opportunities to reduce tariffs through programs like duty drawbacks and trade agreements.
Training and guidance:
Provide training and act as a subject matter expert for internal teams, including commercial, engineering, and supply chain, on trade compliance requirements and best practices.
Liaison and communication:
Serve as the primary contact for customs brokers, freight forwarders, and regulatory agencies to ensure smooth and compliant movement of goods.
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of trade compliance, GdP requirements, and regulatory guidelines within pharmaceutical, biotech or manufacturing environments.
- Solid understanding of hazardous material handling, shipping regulations (DOT, IATA), UN3373 Category B and safety compliance.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite for data analysis and tools like Microsoft Excel and SQL.
- Experience with trade compliance systems (e.g. Trade Flow) and automation tools.
- Proficient with CARM portal for Canadian exports and TSS (through HMRC) for North Ireland imports, shipment valuations.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to create and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS), Work Instructions (WI), and Policies.
Position Requirements
Bachelor,
5+ Years
work experience Desired:
5+ years of Trade Compliance experience in a regulated industry (e.g., medical device, pharmaceutical, life sciences). Experience working with healthcare third-party logistics (3PL) providers is preferred. Experience in a private equity or high-growth environment is a plus.
