Position Title:Municipal Grant Writer – Remote Work from Home!

Type: Part-time hourly, 20+ hours/week (100% Remote)

Base Compensation:Commensurate with experience

We are seeking a skilled, accurate, and resourceful Grant Writer to join our Grant Development Department developing turnkey, persuasive federal and state grant applications for municipal clients. Our grant writers are not just writers – they are public-impact professionals. Our work secures vital funding for infrastructure, housing, public safety, and quality-of-life improvements for communities around the nation.

This is a collaborative, team-based grant writing role, not an isolated freelance position. Writers receive structured training, writing feedback via internal review processes, and shared resources to ensure consistent quality, professional growth, and ultimately, a rewarding career.

Accountable, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven professionals are the best fit for this role.

If you take deep pride in the quality and consistency of your work products and enjoy a team-based approach of supporting and collaborating with your colleagues, you will be a fantastic fit for our team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop competitive grant application narratives (approximately 3–50 pages) that integrate technical, financial, and community data into clear, compelling, and funder-aligned storytelling.
  • Translate complex quantitative, technical, and programmatic information into concise, persuasive language that is accessible to non-technical reviewers.
  • Prepare complete and compliant grant application packages, including budgets and budget narratives, project timelines, Gantt charts, schedules, scopes of work, letters of support, maps, photo exhibits, and all required forms.
  • Deliver assigned work efficiently and within established project budgets and timelines.
  • Ensure strict adherence to program guidelines, formatting rules, page limits, and scoring criteria.
  • Manage multiple grant applications simultaneously across different clients and funding programs, maintaining accuracy, consistency, and deadline compliance.
  • Conduct in-depth research using federal, state, and local data sources and mapping tools (e.g., Google Earth, U.S. Census Bureau, California Community Fact Finder, Cal Enviro Screen ) to support data-driven narratives.
  • Interview subject matter experts and client staff to gather technical inputs and distill key insights into funder-ready content.

Professional Skills

  • Exceptionally high standards for accuracy, clarity, and consistency across all written deliverables.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize large volumes of information into cohesive narratives.
  • Excellent organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong time-management and project-management skills, with attention to detail across multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a collaborative, team-based structure.
  • Professional judgment and accountability in managing workloads, meeting commitments, and supporting overall team success.

Required Qualifications

  • 1-3+ years of experience in federal or state grant writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat Professional.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communication, or applicable field.

Technical Requirements

  • Efficient, effective, and focused in a fully remote environment;
  • Fast internet connection and quiet place to focus to fully participate in video meetings and conference calls with clients and colleagues; and
  • Professional presence in online meetings (Microsoft Teams).
