Environmental Health and Safety Compliance Assurance Manager

This role supports Enterprise Environmental, Occupational Health, and Safety (EOHS) regulatory governance, compliance assurance, and risk-informed oversight across assigned businesses. The individual will leverage EOHS expertise to assess regulatory applicability, support adherence to United Health Group (UHG) minimum standards, and drive operational excellence and continuous improvement. This role partners closely with business stakeholders to understand operations, monitor needs and expectations, and provide practical EOHS regulatory and compliance support.

If you are located in West or Midwest region, you will have the flexibility to work remotely
* as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and facilitate regulatory compliance assessments for assigned businesses/entities to define applicable regulatory program requirements, including federal and state regulations along with UHG minimum standards, as well as impact of risk, current control maturity, and subsequent residual risk
  • Evaluate and maintain comprehensive knowledge of applicable country, federal, state, and local EOHS rules and regulations
  • Participate in and respond to regulatory and customer information requests or assessments by gathering supporting documentation and evidence of compliance
  • Identify compliance gaps and partner with business and operations EOHS to develop Corrective Action Plans (CAPs)
  • Support the CAP process and connect resources to close open actions and drive compliance
  • Monitor CAPs, track closure progress, and provide regular status reporting on open actions, overdue items, and completion trends
  • Identify EOHS policy/program gaps and collaborate with EOHS team members to revise and update as applicable
  • Partner with EOHS operations to support EOHS for an assigned set of regions and businesses
  • Support operations and business EOHS leaders in understanding and prioritizing regulatory compliance assessment results to resolve findings
  • Provide trend analysis on assessment results, CAP closure, and recurring findings to identify areas of opportunity and best practices
  • Develop and implement tools, including standard operating procedures, templates, presentations, and training, to support the compliance assurance program
  • Foster an environment of trust and collaboration among business leaders to support and promote EOHS compliance and safety culture
  • Maintain open channels of communication through frequent check-ins with operations and participating in safety councils or other meetings as applicable

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of relevant EOHS experience in the private and/or public sector
  • 2+ years of experience with compliance adherence/assessment of EOHS Management systems, programs, and procedures within a global, corporate environment
