WhyThis Role Matters
Assortment Planning is a newer function at NAPA, built from the ground up over the past year, and the company is in the midst of a broader transformation with renewed executive focus on better leveraging its independent owner network and inventory. This role gives a Sr. Analyst the rare chance to help build processes, tools, and analytics from scratch rather than execute an established playbook, with direct visibility to Category Management and Assortment Planning leadership as the team scales.
The Ideal CandidateA sharp analytical thinker with 2+ years turning large, messy data sets into a clear story and a recommendation, not just a report. Retail or merchandising exposure is a plus, though not required. Equally important: collaborative, comfortable with ambiguity, and energized by building new processes and tools rather than following an existing playbook.
Key Responsibilities:- Deep-dive inventory productivity by category, location, and SKU to identify the optimal product mix
- Identify opportunities to redistribute space within and across categories to optimize assortment mix
- Build post-review SKU-add analytics to quantify incrementality and cannibalization of assortment decisions
- Support cross-functional review models that clarify exit-strategy costs and new-item introduction timing
- Provide SKU-level sales forecasts to Inventory Planning to help ensure proper fill rates and service levels
- Create streamlined, repeatable processes and documentation for Business Reviews and assortment recommendations
- Partner with Supply Chain Strategy & Analytics to build and refine the tools used to make assortment decisions
- 2+ years of analytics and process improvement experience, ideally within retail or merchandising
- Advanced Excel skills plus hands-on experience querying large data sets (e.g., Big Query or similar)
- Proven ability to turn large data sets into a clear, hypothesis-driven story and a business result
- Strong communication and presentation skills, including building PowerPoint materials for leadership
- Experience with Power BI or other analytics visualization tools is strongly preferred here.
- Prior exposure to merchandising or assortment modeling applications and tools is a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Analytics, Process Improvement, or equivalent work experience is required
- Analytical Storyteller - Turns large data sets into a hypothesis, a conclusion, and a result
- Collaborative Partner - Works easily across Category, Supply Chain, Sourcing, and Pricing teams
- Builder Mindset - Energized by creating new processes and tools, not following an existing playbook
- Self-Starter - Takes initiative and moves forward without needing every step spelled out.
- Flexible Operator - Respects the process but knows when to flex to support a merchant's need
This newly built team works well together and genuinely enjoys one another: smart, collaborative, and easy to get along with rather than cutthroat. Assortment Planning sits alongside Category Management inside an organization investing heavily in modernizing its merchandising capabilities, offering high visibility and the chance to shape process and tools from the ground up rather than inherit a rigid playbook. The team is in the office together Monday through Thursday, with a hybrid work-from-home Friday.
NAPA offers a competitive compensation package and comprehensive benefits.
