POSITION TITLE:

HOME VISITOR, EARLY HEAD START

LOCATION:

1125 West Genesee Street, Syracuse

REPORTS TO:

Home-Based Supervior

SCHEDULE:

Full-time, 52 weeks per year

STARTING PAY RANGE: $22.00 to $26.00 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY:

Work with enrolled families of children under age 5 during weekly home visits, to develop goals based on identified needs, and to provide child development services, counseling, information and training, referrals, and crisis intervention and emergency assistance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Two- or four-year degree in Human Services, Child Development, Adult Education, or a related field. One year of experience working with pregnant women or families of children under age 5. Valid NYS driver license (agency van provided). Knowledge of child development and early childhood education, the principles of child health, safety, and nutrition, adult learning principles, and family dynamics. Knowledge of community resources and the skills to link families with appropriate agencies and services.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist parents in developing activities to use in educational experiences with their children based on an assessment of the childs strengths, interests and needs.
  • Provide a safe, appropriate learning environment in which children participate in a group socialization experience, providing transportation services as needed.
  • Offer health information and health education experiences to each parent and child, including nutrition information and experiences. Conduct health checks during each visit. Assess each childs medical needs, provide information, and advocate for health services.
  • Assist parents in developing their individual goals and steps to achieve those goals, and in utilizing available community resources. Co-facilitate parent education trainings.
  • Provide crisis intervention, emergency assistance, counseling, information and referral services to assigned families.
