As Epicus continues to expand our services to new clients and regions, we’re looking for a strategic, hands‑on construction management leader with experience in the public sector. Current projects are located in the Central Valley for our local government clients, from Modesto to Bakersfield, and will include complex renovations, expansions, and new builds in occupied behavioral health facilities and public institutional buildings.
Your Role:
As a Construction Manager, you will lead the successful execution of public sector construction projects, including major facility renovations and new buildings. Your primary focus will be on delivering superior project outcomes, team collaboration and client customer service while maintaining strict control over cost, schedule, safety, and quality.
- Lead all preconstruction and construction phases of assigned projects, including planning, construction execution, and project close‑out.
- Provide contracting support including RFP/bid preparation, evaluation, contract negotiations, and preconstruction activities.
- Provide construction administration and oversight, ensuring contractor performance, quality of work and compliance with contract documents.
- Conduct regular site visits and inspections as the client representative to monitor construction progress, and adherence to project schedule and safety protocols, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
- Track and manage construction costs, review/negotiate change orders, progress payments, and anticipate and resolve cost‑related issues proactively.
- Monitor construction schedules and coordinate with contractors to ensure key milestones are achieved, progress and critical path is actively managed, delays mitigated and recovery schedules issued when necessary.
- Manage relationships with architects, engineers, vendors, contractors and public agencies to resolve field issues, RFIs, submittals and decisions in a timely and collaborative manner.
- Lead project meetings focused on construction progress, issues, and risk mitigation.
- Oversee the project close‑out process, ensuring punch list, final inspections, as‑built documentation, and warranty administration is completed.
- Mentor and provide direction to Assistant Project Managers and Coordinators.
- Support business development efforts by participating in interviews, proposals, and presentations when needed.
- Qualifications:
- Minimum 4 years of project or construction management experience on government, behavioral health, clinic or medical office projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business, or a related field.
- PMP, CCM and/or LEED AP certification is strongly preferred.
- Experience in the Northern/Central California market and strong relationships with public agencies, corporate clients, design firms, and general contractors.
- Knowledge of the project lifecycle for public sector construction projects, from planning and design through regulatory approvals, construction, and operations.
- Strong business acumen, relationship‑building skills, and a track record of project success.
- Proficiency with project management tools such as Pro Core, Primavera P6, and Blue Beam.
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
- Ability to travel to project sites in the Central Valley and Bakersfield weekly.
