About the role

Balfour Beatty is playing a leading role in delivering HS2, one of the UK’s most ambitious and transformative infrastructure programmes. We are currently looking for a proactive and driven Site Engineer to join our team in Birmingham, working on the Headhouse project—an integral part of the HS2 station development.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a high-profile, technically challenging project in a busy urban environment. As a Site Engineer, you will be at the heart of construction delivery, ensuring that works are carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. You will work closely with construction managers, subcontractors, and design teams to coordinate activities on site and ensure that engineering solutions are implemented effectively.

What

you'll be doing
  • Setting out, levelling, and surveying the site in accordance with project requirements
  • Ensuring works are carried out in line with design drawings, specifications, and quality standards
  • Liaising with subcontractors, supervisors, and the wider project team to coordinate site activities
  • Monitoring progress and reporting on site performance and productivity
  • Managing and maintaining accurate site records, including as-built information
  • Supporting the implementation of health, safety, and environmental procedures
  • Assisting with quality assurance processes, inspections, and testing
  • Identifying and resolving technical issues on site in a timely manner
Who we're looking for
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Previous experience working as a Site Engineer on major infrastructure or construction projects
  • Strong understanding of setting out techniques and use of surveying equipment
  • Knowledge of construction methods, health & safety regulations, and quality standards
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment
  • CSCS card required; SMSTS or SSSTS is advantageous
