Construction Inspection and Materials Testing Technician

Position Summary

Pioneer Technical Services, Inc. is recruiting for a staff‑level employee to perform Construction Inspection and Materials Testing in Libby, MT. The role involves field inspection services, laboratory testing, and project oversight/management.

Field inspection includes density testing with a nuclear density gauge, fresh grout and concrete sampling, shotcrete testing, and coring. Laboratory testing includes compressive strength testing of grout, concrete, and shotcrete specimens. Other duties include data management, equipment maintenance, and sample organization.

The employee will work under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager or Project Engineer. Candidate must have a valid Class D driver’s license.

  Monday–Friday with occasional weekend work.

• Communicate with contractor or site supervisor regarding testing results and any failing tests or problems.
• Confer with supervisor to determine project details such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, and evaluation of field conditions.
• Inspect project site and evaluate contractor work to detect deficiencies and ensure conformance to design specifications and applicable codes.
• Prepare daily field inspection reports that document project activities and data.
• Conduct materials testing and analysis using provided tools and equipment.
• Perform basic computer tasks.

• High School Diploma; college education preferred but not required.
• Field of study:
  Civil/Environmental Engineering, Soil Science, or related/equivalent.
• Experience in general construction, field density testing, concrete testing, soil sampling, and materials testing is preferred but not required.
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel programs is preferred.
• Valid Class D driver’s license.
• Proficient with basic Excel and Word tasks.

• Stand, Bend, Walk, Sit, Speak, Manually Manipulate, Climb, Reach, Crawl, Reach Above Shoulder, Squat or Kneel.
