The North Carolina Zoo seeks an energetic and collaborative Maintenance/Construction Project Manager to lead capital improvement and renovation projects.

• Coordinate internal engineering review of schematic designs and construction drawings provided by outside consultants to confirm conformance with operational needs, local, state and federal codes and professional standards; review and interpret plans for other Zoo departments.
• Represent the Zoo at construction progress meetings, conferences, inspections, and with the State Construction Office.
• Review construction quality to ensure adherence to plans, specifications and sound construction practices and codes.
• Review contractor payment requests, approve or negotiate change orders during construction, and monitor project budgets.
• Maintain project records during construction and after completion, including budgets, invoices, submittals and ensuring closeout of the SCO process and receipt of owner training, O&M manuals, warranties and record drawings.
• Conduct final inspections with designers and recommend acceptance for occupancy.
• Conduct post-occupancy evaluation and resolve issues through warranty considerations.

• Minimum:
  Bachelor's degree in facilities or construction management, or related engineering field from an accredited institution, plus two years of related experience in construction project management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Preferred:
  Demonstrated knowledge of project management, engineering and design methodologies, construction methods and construction management; familiarity with NC General Statutes and NC Building Codes; experience estimating costs and monitoring and managing construction projects; experience in sustainable building practices; engineering, architectural, landscape design, construction administration and capital project management experience.
• Professional Engineer registration by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors Division may be required.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally; able to bend, stoop, work in tight spaces, climb stairs and ladders, stand for the majority of the day and endure extended outdoor field conditions; must have a valid driver's license issued in the United States.
• Hybrid work schedule: remote work may be approved up to 1 day per week or up to 4 days per month, in addition to required on-site weekends and holidays.

• Sign-on bonus of $5,000 (subject to funding availability).
• Salary range: $63,927 - $75,000.
• Hybrid telework considered under DNCR's Telework Policy.
