Director of Estimating (Remote – United States)

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Estimating to lead our Preconstruction and Cost Management efforts across complex construction programs nationwide. This role will oversee estimating operations, mentor estimating teams, and provide executive-level cost leadership for large-scale projects with a strong focus on Data Centers, Mission Critical Facilities, and MEP-intensive construction.

The Director of Estimating will be responsible for developing conceptual, schematic, and detailed cost estimates, guiding preconstruction strategy, supporting client relationships, and ensuring the delivery of accurate and reliable cost information throughout the project lifecycle. This position is ideal for a senior electrical estimating professional with a strong trade background who has successfully transitioned into leadership and cost management roles.

This is a remote position within the Tristate Area, with occasional travel for client meetings, project reviews, and team collaboration as needed.

Estimating Leadership
  • Lead the preparation and review of conceptual, schematic, design development, and detailed construction cost estimates.
  • Oversee estimating activities across multiple concurrent projects and market sectors.
  • Establish estimating standards, methodologies, and best practices to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Direct workload planning, resource allocation, and deliverable management for estimating teams.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews on all estimating deliverables.
Preconstruction & Cost Management
  • Support budget development, cost planning, feasibility studies, and value engineering initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets throughout design and preconstruction phases.
  • Analyze design documents and provide strategic cost guidance during project development.
  • Perform value analysis and identify opportunities to optimize project costs without compromising quality or performance.
  • Participate in risk assessments and value management exercises to support informed decision-making.
Client & Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by providing accurate cost information and strategic recommendations.
  • Prepare executive-level reports, milestone estimates, presentations, and client-facing deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with owners, developers, architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants.
  • Collaborate with project controls, operations, leadership, and cross-functional project teams to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes.
Commercial Management
  • Review contractor and subcontractor bids for completeness, accuracy, and competitiveness.
  • Conduct bid leveling, bid analysis, and procurement support activities.
  • Reconcile change orders, invoices, and cost impacts with contractors, subcontractors, and third-party consultants.
  • Provide post-contract cost support, including change management and cost control guidance.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop estimators, cost managers, and estimating technicians.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, technical excellence, and professional growth.
  • Conduct peer reviews and support process improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and retaining top estimating talent.
Industry Expertise
  • Stay current on construction market conditions, labor trends, material pricing, and industry best practices.
  • Provide thought leadership on estimating strategies and market intelligence.
  • Support business development efforts through proposal support, client presentations, and industry engagement.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Cost Management, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 10+ years of progressive estimating and preconstruction experience within the construction industry.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing estimating teams or departments.
  • Strong background in electrical estimating, MEP systems, or trade-level construction estimating.
