Senior Project Manager for underground utilities projects in Chicagoland, employed by a medium‑sized general contractor specializing in civils, infrastructure, and utilities. Salary: $100,000 – $140,000 per year.

Job Details

We are seeking a Project Manager who will specialize in Underground Utilities and Water Main Programs. The role involves a combination of in‑office work, field visits, and remote work, overseeing sewer, water, and other underground infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

Oversee and manage all aspects of underground utility projects, including sewer, water, and other infrastructure projects.

Develop and execute project plans, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk management strategies.

Lead a team of project professionals and contractors, ensuring all tasks are completed on time and within budget.

Coordinate with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to meet project objectives.

Manage project resources, including labor, materials, and equipment.

Ensure all project activities comply with company and industry safety standards.

Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure quality control and adherence to project specifications.

Resolve issues or challenges that may arise during the project lifecycle.

Prepare and present project status reports to internal and external stakeholders.

Continuously seek opportunities to improve project management processes and techniques.

Qualifications

Minimum 4 years of experience in the construction industry, focused on underground utilities or water main installation projects.

Preferred bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

Proven experience managing large‑scale, complex underground utility projects.

Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.

Strong understanding of construction processes, methods, and safety regulations.

Proficient in project management software and tools.

Exceptional problem‑solving skills, with strategic thinking and sound decision‑making under pressure.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, building strong relationships with clients, team members, and stakeholders.

Highly organized and detail‑oriented, able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

Professional certification in project management (PMP) is preferred.
