We are looking for a mid‑career civil estimating professional with five years or more of experience in heavy civil or related markets. The role involves leading estimates for self‑performed civil construction scopes across our Central District.

Location

Kansas City metro area, Lenexa, Kansas Office.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead complete estimates and quantity/material takeoffs for self‑performed civil construction scopes across design/build, design/bid/build and EPC projects for ground‑up infrastructure projects.
  • Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project and prepare a construction plan that serves as the basis for the estimate.
  • Assist with proposals and other documentation to prepare cost estimates, and review all bid and contract documents and home office legal department opinions.
  • Conduct site investigations prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
  • Participate in constructability reviews, collaborating with project managers, design engineers, superintendents, clients and other Kiewit districts to align expectations, phasing and scheduling of the work to ensure accuracy within the estimate.
  • Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry.
  • Provide leadership and strategy in the subcontractor and vendor selection process; may lead small estimating teams and lead estimates for projects.
  • Prepare special engineering studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions, and consult with clients/owners on various problems discovered during bid preparation or design/construction schedule changes to keep the estimate on track.
Qualifications
  • BS in engineering, construction, estimating or similar field, and a minimum of five years' related estimating infrastructure experience. If no degree, a minimum of ten years experience combined in estimating, field construction/superintendent experience is required.
  • Experience leading estimates and small estimating teams, providing coaching/mentoring is required at this level.
  • Exceptionally strong attention to detail, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and proficiency with various estimating tools; eager to learn InEight.
  • Ability to perform estimating duties as outlined above, consult with stakeholders in bid preparation, and interface with clients to perform pre‑construction functions.
  • Ability to travel to site locations as required for walkdowns and other estimating‑related functions.
