Job purpose

Stage Management Apprentices work with our professional stage management teams from pre-production through final performance. In the process, they will have the opportunity to observe and observe and work with Actor’s Equity Stage Managers and participate in maintaining the rehearsal rooms, cast hospitality, paperwork, line notes, be on book, preset and run shows, among other duties. Stage management apprentices are required to attend all rehearsals and performances.

These are full-time paid apprenticeships while the productions are in preparation, rehearsal and during the run. All employees are expected to model and champion the DCPA’s core values of artistic excellence, community, equity, diversity and inclusion, and fiscal responsibility.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist AEA Stage Managers in facilitating the rehearsal process, technical process and day-to-day tasks
  • Required to attend all pre-production, rehearsals & performances
  • Maintain paperwork as assigned
  • Be on-book and take line notes
  • Preset the show and run a deck track if necessary
  • Maintain hospitality items daily (pencils, coffee, water, etc.)
  • Maintain cleanliness of the rehearsal room (sweeping/mopping, etc.)
  • Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications

An ideal candidate will have the following skills and/or experience:

  • Must have a background in or a foundational understanding of Stage Management
  • Collaborative mindset
  • Organizational skills & attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and shifting demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to understand dynamics in the rehearsal room
  • Ability to take initiative and be proactive
  • Understanding of theatrical and musical terms
  • Highly proficient in written and verbal communication
  • Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office 365 preferred
