Illustrator

smartdept. is searching for an Illustrator for a medical device industry client. The ideal candidate will come with 3–5+ years of experience. This is a project-based remote job.

This role will support an Artwork Update for their conference room, refreshing and modernizing a high-visibility executive space through the creation of custom, plexiglass-mounted instrument illustrations that reflect the client’s innovative spirit, product heritage, and commitment to precision.

• Develop a cohesive series of six custom instrument illustrations representing key product categories
• Create sketch-inspired, engineering-driven artwork that balances technical accuracy with an artistic, conceptual aesthetic
• Explore and present multiple concept options, incorporating and evolving an existing da Vinci–inspired, industrial sketch-style direction
• Design artwork that aligns with corporate identity standards and complements existing architectural finishes and red conference seating
• Ensure all illustrations read as a unified installation rather than standalone pieces
• Prepare final approved layouts and production-ready files in collaboration with vendor specifications
• Support revisions and production phases through final delivery

• Strong illustration skills with the ability to blend technical precision and artistic expression
• Experience creating large-scale environmental or installation-based artwork
• Familiarity with print production and fabrication processes, particularly plexiglass or dimensional installations
• Ability to interpret engineering or industrial subject matter into visually compelling, brand-aligned artwork
