THE OPPORTUNITY
The Canadian Journalism Collective–Collectif canadien de journalisme (CJC–CCJ) is at the forefront of an unprecedented movement in Canadian media. As a federally incorporated nonprofit, CJC–CCJ was founded by a diverse coalition of news publishers and broadcasters with a mission to foster sustainability, equity, and innovation within Canada's journalism ecosystem.
CJC–CCJ is entrusted with distributing funds from the Online News Act, introducing new models of support that prioritize both inclusivity and accountability. By supporting a variety of publishers and broadcasters' sustainability, we're strengthening the social fabric of Canadian society.
This new chapter aims to empower a broad range of voices, set new democratic precedents in media funding, and uphold the core values of transparency, independence, and resilience. Through CJC–CCJ, Canada's journalism ecosystem is poised to offer a new compensation model to the world, by implementing the Online News Act in a way that maximizes sustainability and equity.
THE ROLEThe Canadian Journalism Collective - Collectif Canadien de Journalisme (CJC-CCJ) is looking for journalism students to work as verification agents verifying the eligibility of funding applications for the Canadian Journalism Collective.
Under the supervision of the verification team lead, selected individuals will undergo rigorous training to understand the Online News Act, CJC-CCJ's Eligibility Policy and the verification process.
Qualifications required:
- Strong understanding of the Canadian media ecosystem
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to be objective and impartial
- Enjoys working within a team
- Knowledge of Salesforce is an asset
- University level reading ability in the following languages is an asset:
- Arabic
- Bangla
- Cantonese
- Farsi
- French
- Greek
- Korean
- Mandarin
- Punjabi
- Russian
- Vietnamese
Conditions:
- 20 hours per week for a period of three months starting July
1. Possibility of staying on after September. - $25/hour
- Available for meetings between 11am ET and 5pm ET
- Remote work using online collaboration tools (Slack)
