Overview
The Archdiocese of St. Louis headquarters and curia for the Archdiocese of St. Louis is the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO. The Catholic Student Center at Washington University is a house of formation and a community of hospitality for students of any or no faith. The Student Music Ministry Coordinator supports the CSC’s liturgical music ministry with a focus on student-centered liturgies and retreats. The Coordinator recruits, forms, and mentors student musicians, fosters a welcoming and prayerful environment, and helps develop student leaders. The role works closely with the Director of Music Ministry, Chaplain, and ministry team to ensure a unified vision for music across the CSC community.
ResponsibilitiesLiturgical Music Leadership
- Plan and lead music for the 4:30 p.m. Student Mass, Tuesday Night Mass, and Awakening Retreat.
- Provide music for weddings and funerals as assigned.
- Select liturgically appropriate and pastorally sensitive music for student worship.
- Collaborate with CSC leadership to align music with the liturgical calendar and pastoral goals.
- Recruit, mentor, and rehearse student musicians, cantors, and instrumentalists.
- Build student leadership within music ministry.
- Lead rehearsals and ensure preparedness for liturgies and retreats.
- Prepare and distribute weekly music materials.
- Provide constructive feedback to support student development.
- Support the Director of Music Ministry in implementing a unified vision.
- Collaborate with CSC staff on scheduling, communication, and coordination.
- Help integrate student musicians with the broader CSC music community.
- Provide coverage for the Director of Music Ministry when needed.
- Maintain music resources and digital materials for student liturgies.
- Part-time: approx. 15–20 hours per week during the academic year.
- Minimal hours in June, July, and academic breaks.
- Evening and weekend work required.
- College degree preferred or equivalent experience showing strong musicianship and leadership.
- Demonstrated excellence as a musician and music leader with creativity and energy for student ministry.
- Strong proficiency in piano or guitar suitable for leading worship.
- Experience mentoring or coordinating musicians of varied skill levels.
- Familiarity with Catholic or Christian liturgical music; openness to growth in Catholic liturgical practice.
- Experience in campus, parish, or faith-based ministry required.
- Respectful, organized, collaborative, and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Comfortable in fast-paced or time-sensitive environments.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Willingness to support Catholic teachings; practicing Catholic preferred.
