Concept Artist - Storyboards, Unannounced Game | Irvine, CA

Requisition : R026823

Your Mission

At Blizzard, we craft genre‑defining games and legendary worlds for all to share. Through unparalleled creativity and storytelling, we create immersive universes and iconic characters that are beloved across platforms, borders, backgrounds, and generations – only made possible by building a work environment that cultivates the artistry of game development and unleashes the aspirations of our people.

We are looking for a Concept Artist – Storyboards to help craft a new, unannounced game for Blizzard. As a key member of the development team, you will be responsible for delivering a high volume of storyboard content—storyboards, beat boards, and keyframes—that bring narrative moments to life and clarify cinematic intent for the broader team. You are highly fluent in sequential storytelling and understand how composition, timing, rhythm, and staging guide an audience through a moment.

You are comfortable operating in a dynamic environment, navigating fluid deadlines and changing priorities with purpose, and translating abstract ideas, scripts, music, and narrative direction into clear, actionable storyboards.

This role is a hybrid work position, with some work on‑site and some work from home. The home studio for this role is Irvine, CA.

Responsibilities
  • Create high‑quality storyboards, beat boards, and keyframes that define cinematic flow, camera language, and emotional pacing.
  • Translate scripts, music, narrative beats, and creative direction into clear visual sequences.
  • Collaborate with the Art Director, Creative Director, Production, and cross‑disciplinary partners to align storyboard work with overall vision and execution needs.
  • Support narrative mission content, cinema tics, trailers, and presentations through strong visual storytelling.
  • Iterate quickly based on feedback while maintaining clarity, intent, and visual cohesion.
  • Prepare clean, readable storyboard packages suitable for cross‑disciplinary use.
  • Participate in reviews and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback when appropriate.
  • Maintain organized files, naming conventions, and workflows that integrate smoothly into production pipelines.
Minimum Requirements Experience
  • 5+ years of professional experience in concept art, storyboarding, or visual development.
  • Proven experience delivering storyboards for cinema tics, trailers, live events, or experiential media.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within teams and foster productive partnerships across all departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire colleagues through an enthusiastic approach to game development and a commitment to continuous improvement of core skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and manage responsibilities independently, demonstrating strong ownership and accountability.
  • Experienced and knowledgeable player of a wide range of games; able to use this expertise to enhance creative decisions in game development.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong understanding of composition, camera language, staging, timing, rhythm, and visual continuity.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly through sequential art and visual storytelling.
  • Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary creative teams.
  • Comprehensive understanding of major aspects of concept art creation for games and ability to contribute hands‑on production work.
  • Familiarity with production pipelines and best practices for file organization and deliverable handoff.
Key Attributes
  • A team‑oriented approach to your work, understanding the importance of collaboration and partnering with all departments.
  • Comfort operating in early development and R&D environments, translating ambiguity into clear, actionable visual sequences.
  • Self‑motivated ability to execute on initiatives with strong ownership and accountability.
  • The ability to inspire others with an enthusiastic approach to game development and improving core skills.
Extra Points
  • Experience working through early development R&D phases of a project.
  • Ability to stretch into other areas of concept art when opportunities arise.
