ResponsibilitiesThe Brass Chamber Music Coordinator oversees the chamber music experiences for brass groups and brass players in mixed groups at the University of Michigan's School of Music, Theatre & Dance. The Coordinator works with the Coordinators of Piano, Strings, Woodwind, Mixed, and Baroque Chamber Music to support the Chair of Chamber Music in the administration, teaching, curriculum, and performances for the chamber music department.
The Coordinator attends regular meetings, collaborates on group/coaching assignments and projects, and discusses spending, scheduling, special projects, guest artists, and recruitment. The Coordinator works with brass faculty in WPID, other Coordinators in Chamber Music, and the Chair of Chamber Music on group and coaching assignments for brass chamber music ensembles (quintets, quartets, or other sizes) and brass players in mixed and piano groups.
The Coordinator also coaches most of the mixed brass ensembles (i.e. non-single studio groups of trombones, trumpets, horns, or tuba/euphonium), hosts one chamber music concert per semester, and contributes to discussions about guest artists, collaborative opportunities, and pedagogical developments that increase the impact and value of brass chamber music coaching for SMTD students.
Master's degree or equivalent in a brass instrument (trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, or tuba); 5+ years experience in a chamber music ensemble or chamber music presenting organization; 3+ years higher education teaching.
Modes of WorkPositions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. This position requires regular on-campus presence.
