WHO WE ARE:

New Roads Catholic Community is a growing, mission-driven parish just outside Boston, committed to helping people encounter Jesus, grow as disciples, and experience the Church as a place of belonging, hope, and renewal.

We exist especially to reach those who feel disconnected from faith or unsure if the Church is for them. Our worship reflects that mission-energetic, accessible, and deeply rooted in the Catholic tradition while engaging people in the language and culture of today.

POSITION SUMMARY:

New Roads is seeking a Worship Director to lead and continually strengthen our worship ministry across weekend Masses and other worship opportunities. This role is responsible for shaping meaningful, excellent, and engaging worship experiences; developing musicians and volunteers; and helping lead our community in prayer through modern Catholic worship.

This position may be hired as full-time or part-time, depending on the candidate's experience and whether technical/production responsibilities are included in the role. Work is to be done on-site at our parish offices in Belmont.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Worship Leadership & Musical Direction
    • Provide vision and leadership for worship at New Roads in alignment with our mission and values
    • Plan and lead music for weekend Masses and special liturgies
    • Create worship experiences that are prayerful, accessible, and engaging-especially for those who may be new or returning to church
    • Maintain and grow a contemporary worship repertoire that supports the message, reflects the liturgical season, and resonates with a modern congregation
    • Serve as lead vocalist and/or instrumentalist (guitar or keys) as needed
  • Team Development & Discipleship
    • Recruit, audition, onboard, and develop volunteer and paid musicians
    • Build healthy, life-giving worship teams rooted in collaboration, excellence, and spiritual growth
    • Lead rehearsals and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
    • Create pathways for musicians to grow spiritually and musically
    • Cultivate a culture of ownership, accountability, and joy within the worship ministry
  • Worship Planning & Collaboration
    • Collaborate closely with the pastoral team to plan services that align with teaching themes and liturgical seasons
    • Prepare music, charts, and resources in advance for rehearsals and services
    • Participate in weekly staff and planning meetings
    • Contribute creatively to special services, series, and seasonal moments
Production & Technology (may be full or partial depending on role structure)

    • Ableton Live and/or multitracks
    • Pro Presenter or similar presentation software
  • Work with staff and volunteers to ensure excellent sound, lighting, and livestream experiences
  • Coordinate with the Finance & Operations Manager on equipment needs, maintenance, and upgrades
Note:

For part-time candidates, #4 (technical production responsibilities) may be reduced or handled by a separate Audio/Production role.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Demonstrated experience leading contemporary Christian worship
  • Strong musical ability (vocals + guitar or keys preferred)
  • Experience developing and leading musicians (paid + volunteer)
  • Comfort working in a collaborative, fast-moving church environment
  • Familiarity with Catholic liturgy strongly preferred (but openness and willingness to learn is essential)

  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage details, timelines, and multiple contributors
  • Ability to collaborate with clergy, staff, and volunteers in a team-based environment
