The Audio Visual Operations Manager is responsible for providing a wide range of professional audiovisual services for internal and external events on campus. This is a detail-oriented and technical role responsible for ensuring that live sound, projection, video production and web streaming services are delivered with a high level of professional production values.
The position requires a creative, self-motivated professional with excellent technical, communication, organizational, and troubleshooting skills and a proven record of delivering results in a complex audiovisual environment. The ability to troubleshoot audiovisual systems and manage many simultaneous projects, details, and deadlines is critical. This is a 12-month full-time on-site position which requires weekend, evening, and on-call work in support of a busy campus event calendar.

- Maintain in-depth knowledge of installed audiovisual gear and live stream video systems in all campus event venues and in classroom/multipurpose spaces. Configure, modify, and upgrade video, audio, and computer systems as needed to meet ongoing event needs. Act as primary support to troubleshoot and
solve technical issues. Ensure repair needs are swiftly resolved. - Provide live sound mixing and engineering support for campus events and guest artists, evaluating riders, managing rentals, and configuring live sound consoles for performances.
- Operate audiovisual systems for events where needed and in the case of emergencies.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of computer network setups, IP addressing and audio/video over IP protocols to enable remote control of equipment, signal distribution over Ethernet, and the setup/operation of AV Equipment on campus networks.
- Maintain accurate technical venue system documentation, drawings, and equipment databases using standard departmental tools and software.
- Continually stay informed of best practices in audiovisual services, assessing new product releases and purchasing equipment that enhances services.
- Participate in weekly planning meetings with the Events Office to assess client needs for each event, determine the appropriate gear required to meet the event needs, and ensure that the appropriate follow up happens.
- Manage the Student Technician team. Maintain an ongoing technical training program to develop student skills in one-on-one and group training situations. Hire student employees, perform evaluations, document disciplinary actions and issues, and terminate employment when necessary. Communicate standards of professionalism and awareness of safety issues to student technicians.
- Manage and maintain a pool of external service providers and independent contractors to provide operational support for events as needed. Ensure awareness of college protocols and expectations.
- Manage the events workflow utilizing the departmental software solutions. Ensure departmental data is accurate, build reports as needed, and utilize data to evaluate trends and make recommendations to modify spaces based on historical trend analysis.
- Schedule employees (students and staff) for events and provide detailed work assignments in a timely fashion.
- Oversee post-production audio and video editing services, ensure timely delivery of finished product, coordinate archiving and delivery to clients.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent skills in troubleshooting complex sound reinforcement and audio/video distribution systems.
- Excellent ability to build a quality audio mix in a concert setting.
- Excellent understanding of professional audio and video equipment and knowledge of recording and editing software.
