  • Establish a “mini-beat” to dig deeper.
  • Enterprising and self‑motivated, able to work on their own, and with a team.
  • Manage the news team’s community engagement efforts, reaching out and listening to North Country residents to help develop deeper stories at the earliest stages of reporting.
  • Using the 650-member NCPR Texting Club (based in the Groundsource platform) and other engagement tools, work with the news team to seed story ideas and callouts.
  • Support other reporters in their callouts and community engagement efforts.
  • Encouraged to file national stories with NPR and other public media outlets.
  • Work closely with editors and fellow reporters to produce your best work.
  • Collaborate with the news team on special projects and investigative journalism.
  • Approximately 65% of time spent in traditional reporting; 35% spent in community engagement work.
  • NOTE:

This position is based in Glens Falls. This is a remote work position with occasional travel and work time in the main NCPR headquarters station in Canton, N.Y.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 2 years’ reporting experience, preferably in public radio.
  • Strong background in journalism for radio and digital platforms.
  • Excellent writing skills for broadcast and web.
  • Ability to work successfully from home/remote office, various hours, including nights and weekends, depending on assignment.
  • Valid Driver’s license and vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with community engagement journalism and knowledge of tools and best practices.
  • Experience using the Groundsource text-based platform.
