WDFW Program- Directors Office – Communication and Public Engagement (CAPE)
Duty Station- Olympia, Washington – Thurston County
Hybrid/Telework-While this position offers a hybrid work arrangement, the successful candidate must be available to report to the Olympia, WA headquarters as needed. The selected candidate may be able to telework/work remotely up to 4 days per week at the discretion of the supervisor.

Lead the creation of high-priority graphics and publications, translating complex policy, scientific, and regulatory information into clear and engaging visual communications.

As one of two Department graphic designers, you’ll support design across print and digital platforms to enhance public understanding, promote safety, and elevate the visibility of agency initiatives.


What to Expect-

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role,the Senior Graphic Designer will,

Visual Communications:

  • Use Adobe Creative Cloud Suite to translate agency information, technical and scientific data, and regulatory content into visual communications that enhance public understanding and safety.
  • Design and produce the Department’s highest profile publications by organizing content, collecting photos and design elements, crafting custom graphics and infographics, and designing layouts that visually enhance meaning and understanding.
  • Design and produce original graphics for use across multiple print and digital platforms, including Department displays and signs.
  • Coordinate and create brochures, technical and scientific reports, regulatory pamphlets, policy and procedure factsheets, flyers, conference displays, permanent mounted displays, maps, and promotion campaigns.
  • Procure appropriate images/photos, secure permissions for use of images/photos and ensures products are reflective of WDFW’s mission to promote diversity, equity and inclusion.

Web and digital content management:

  • Provide technical expertise on the design and production of web and digital product visual elements.
  • Design and produce visual elements for internal and external websites.

Working Conditions:

Work Setting, including hazards: Primarily a home office or office setting with some days spend in the field under line staff guidance. Office hazards include working under fluorescent light, repetitively entering data into computer, looking at computer monitor for long periods of time, sitting or standing for long periods of time. May be able to telework/work remotely up to 4 days per week at the discretion of the supervisor.

Schedule: Typically, Monday – Friday, 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Occasional after-hours work as needed to complete tasks.

Tools and Equipment: Adobe design software (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Rush and Adobe Pro), Microsoft Office, ArcGIS.

Customer Interactions: The ability to work collaboratively, establishing and maintaining cooperative internal working relationships and demonstrating effective interpersonal skills.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual/fine arts, communications, and two (2) years professional experience in graphic design, visual communications, or fine arts.

Option 2: Associate’s degree in graphic design, visual/fine arts, communications, andfour (4) years of professional experience in graphic design, visual communications, or fine arts.

Option 3: Six (6) or more years of professional experience in graphic design, communications, visual communications, or fine art background.

In addition to the requirement options above, the incumbent must have experience in/with the following:

  • Expert level proficiency in Adobe design software:
    InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Rush, and Acrobat Pro
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
