Job Summary

Metroland Media, part of Canada’s Local Journalism Initiative, is seeking an energetic and independent reporter for a temporary, full‑time contract based in the Muskoka region.

Contract period: until March 31, 2027.

Annual salary: $44,059.01 – $56,829.84.

The position is virtual, but the successful candidate must be available for on‑site interviews and photography in the Huntsville and Lake of Bays areas.

• Produce a minimum of 5–7 original stories each week for
• Provide the content for potential syndication to other media outlets and Metroland publication websites.
• Cover civic topics such as council, school board, law enforcement, courts, fire departments, Crown corporations, government agencies, Parliament and provincial legislature events.
• Interview subjects and take photographs to support stories.

• Journalism degree, diploma or equivalent experience (preferred).
• Strong interviewing, social media and online journalism skills.
• Excellent writing, communication and storytelling abilities.
• Proven news judgement, strong work ethic and ability to manage time in a deadline‑driven environment.
• Effective organizational skills and ability to work independently in a virtual newsroom.
• Photography skills.
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle access.
