Journalist Position at Ostdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung

Die Ostdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (OAZ) is the new journalistic project of the Berliner Verlag. Our aim is to bring independent, unbiased, and well-founded journalism from Eastern Germany into the media spotlight—regionally rooted and at the same time relevant on a broader scale. We combine 360-degree coverage of global events with strong local stories and open debate formats for the local people.

For this, we are looking for strong support at our locations in Schwerin or Rostock!

• Research & Topic Identification: You identify relevant topics for Schwerin/Rostock and for Eastern Germany and prepare them creatively and concisely.
• Reporting: You implement them in different formats—from reports and commentaries to glosses, listicles, and interviews.
• Continuous Participation: You contribute to the editorial development through ideas, impulses, and constructive criticism.
• Teamwork: You will be part of a committed editorial team with high personal responsibility and team spirit.

• Passion for topics and stories from Eastern Germany
• Openness to listen and make voices heard that are often overlooked
• Very good sense of language and joy in writing
• Reliable and structured working method, flexibility, and curiosity for new formats
• German language skills at native level; additional language skills are a plus
• Ideally, first experience in the editorial office and in the use of digital tools, social media, or research methods
• Strong connection to Eastern German perspectives and life realities and the ability to differentiate and knowledgeably categorize them journalistically
• Secure handling of AI tools (e.g., Claude, Gemini) in research, text production, and SEO; experience with targeted prompting and the ability to critically categorize AI outputs
