Senior Motion Editor - ILM Vancouver

Hybrid position; 2‑3 days onsite at ILM Vancouver's Coal Harbour studio and occasional remote work.

ILM Vancouver seeks a Senior Motion Editor (Senior Motion Capture Animator) with proven experience in high‑end film/VFX or video game industry.

• Retarget and edit body motion of realistic motion‑captured performances in a non‑destructive way, delivering high quality animations.
• Adjust performance, adding fingers, toes, tail animation and body adjustments to enhance posture, gesture and weight.
• Blend motions, creating fluid, believable transitions between distinct clips.
• Improve interaction and contacts between characters, props, environment and terrain.
• Teach and mentor junior team members, troubleshooting and elevating team quality.

• Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Visualisation, Computer Animation or related field.
• Previous experience using Motion Builder, Blender, Nuance, and/or Maya with motion‑captured performances.
• Proven experience in high‑end film VFX and a current showreel.
• Strong understanding of retargeting techniques, principles of animation, and workflow for fluid transitions.
• Attention to detail, communication skills, proactive problem‑solving, keen eye for motion, timing and posture.
• Experience using Linux and Vicon Shogun is a plus.
• Background in using Maya, Blender, Nuance and/or Motion Builder.
• Capability to mentor junior team members.

• Experience with Mocap animation in Maya.
• Strong knowledge of Retargeting and Blending techniques.

Pay range: C $87,200 to C $111,600 per year based on a 40‑hour work week. Hours and benefits may vary according to internal equity and the candidate's geographic region, knowledge, skills, and experience.
