The crew you’ll join
The Lighting and Compositing Artist in the Feature Animation team collaborates with the Lead Lighting and Compositing Leads and Supervisors as well as our Head of Lighting to create compelling final imagery. They are responsible for the 3D lighting and rendering of all 3D elements and the final composition of high-quality production plans.
What your day will look like?
- Work with the Lighting Lead and experienced artists to understand the look of individual sequences to achieve technical and artistic objectives while respecting the story;
- Receive master shots for sequences and work with direction from the Lighting and Compositing Lead to light and composite them;
- Create master light rigs and assemble lighting setups for a sequence in line with the Supervisor's Lighting and compositing indications;
- Light and composite shots using Gaffer and Nuke using the predefined light rigs and look development templates provided;
- Provide artistic input using your shading and color understanding while harmonizing the creative and technical aspects of each shot;
- Problem solve and troubleshoot any artistic and technical issues;
- Flag to the Lead, production, and Supervisor any problems and elevate if necessary;
- Ensure that shots meet the render requirements and are completed in a timely fashion in Renderman;
- Submit shots in dailies and work with the team to discuss and resolve issues pertaining to the shots;
- Take direction and any constructive feedback from the supervisors and apply corrective actions that serve the storytelling and the look of the shot.
Your credits
- 5 years experience in a similar role on animated feature-length projects
- Proficiency in Katana/Gaffer, Nuke, Houdini Solaris and Renderman
- Very good understanding of light, shading and colour, as well as of compositing principles and practices
- Ability to work well within a team environment and take direction from Leads as appropriate
- Apprehension of stylized and non-photoreal lighting concepts
- Sense of cinematography and story telling
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
