We are seeking a motivated and versatile reporter who is looking to learn and expand their journalist knowledge to join our publication at DeVaul Publishing for the Tenino Independent. DO NOT APPLY THROUGH LINKEDIN - email below.
This position allows for flexible hours and working from home occasionally. It is only a 30-minute drive from the state capitol of Olympia!
You will find stories in the area, write and take pictures for each one, as well as work with the graphic designer to do the paper's page layout.
The paper comes out once a week, so being timely and prepared is important.
The publication is currently paper only, but is considering going digital. It would need help from someone who is interested in being a part of the publication.
You will use your own vehicle for this position, but you will be paid for mileage.
The office is located in Chehalis, Washington.
Responsibilities- Research, report, write, and produce original news content for the rural area
- Conduct interviews in person, by phone, or via virtual platforms
- Build and maintain relationships with community contacts and sources
- Work with the graphic designer to do page layouts using In Design
- Attend community events
- Previous experience in journalism, broadcasting, or a related field preferred; recent graduates with strong skills encouraged to apply.

- Valid driver's license

- Proficiency with AP Style knowledge
