Job SummaryThe Musician supports the liturgical and worship life of St. Peter Catholic Church by providing quality musical accompaniment and leadership for Masses, sacramental celebrations, funerals, weddings, holy days, and other parish events as assigned. This position works collaboratively with clergy, staff, cantors, choir members, and volunteers to enhance congregational participation in worship and uphold the traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church through sacred music.
Responsibilities
- Provide instrumental and/or vocal music for weekend Masses, holy days, funerals, weddings, and other liturgical celebrations as assigned.
- Collaborate with clergy and parish staff to select and prepare appropriate music that supports the liturgical calendar and worship themes.
- Accompany cantors, choirs, and other music ministers during rehearsals and liturgical celebrations.
- Participate in scheduled rehearsals and planning meetings as needed.
- Maintain proficiency in performance skills and prepare music in advance of all assigned services.
- Foster active congregation participation through effective musical leadership.
- Support special parish events, seasonal liturgies, and sacramental celebrations throughout the year.
- Assist in the care and proper use of musical instruments, equipment, and music resources.
- Adhere to Archdiocesan and parish policies, procedures, and expectations for professional conduct.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in piano, organ, voice, or other applicable musical instruments.
- Knowledge of Catholic liturgy, sacred music traditions, and worship practices preferred.
- Ability to accompany cantors, choirs, and congregational singing.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clergy, staff, volunteers, and parishioners.
- Ability to read music and learn new selections efficiently.
- Dependable, organized, and able to meet rehearsal and performance schedules.
- Previous church music ministry experience preferred.
- Commitment to supporting the mission and values of the Roman Catholic Church.
