About the Organization for World Peace – News and Reporting Branch:
The News and Reporting Branch of the Organization for World Peace (OWP) produces and publishes articles and reports on various contemporary issues that threaten international peace and security, while arguing for peaceful, non-combatant solutions to such issues. In this regard, the OWP seeks to reroute the general thinking that humanitarian crises require armed military interventions and move this way of thinking towards strategic problem-solving.

The primary goal of our research is to spread awareness of the negative impact of war and violence as well as the ineffectiveness of combative strategies in dealing with these complex issues.

The News and Reporting Branch is seeking writers to track and report international news related to peace, conflict, and security. The position requires a candidate with strong research and writing skills and a good understanding of effective reporting techniques and how to identify and gather evidence pertaining to current events around the world.

Interns will work in the U.S. Division under the Executive Director. This internship is fully remote. Interns will contact their Executive Director, who functions as their supervisor, over email. The Executive Director tracks the progress of interns through their Word Press account and provides feedback on written articles. The internship also includes regular video calls that encourage the sharing of feedback, concerns, questions, etc.

Students should consult with academic faculty to determine if this unpaid experience will earn credit.

• Successful candidates must demonstrate the ability to conduct effective research on current events
• Strong understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods
• Ability to work independently and meet weekly deadlines
• Preference will be given to recent graduates and undergraduates currently enrolled in degree programs such as journalism, communications, international affairs, political science, and other relevant fields

• Collect information and data pertaining to international crises
• Write and submit one current events article per week (400-700 words)
• Write and submit one in-depth report on broader global issues per month (900-1500 words)
• Attend divisional meetings and webinars

• Approximately 5 – 7 hours per week
• 12-week internship, with the ability to renew (should an intern complete twelve weeks without completing twelve articles, they are expected to continue the internship until they reach the twelve article benchmark)

• Improve research and writing skills by gathering and synthesizing relevant information and data into coherent and succinct articles and reports
• Improve critical thinking skills by analyzing potential solutions to complex global issues
• Develop time management skills by fulfilling deadlines in an independent setting
