We are seeking a reliable and skilled Studio Assistant to join a working artist’s studio practice and support a range of ongoing projects. This position involves hands‑on assistance with artwork production and preparation, studio and archival organization, and installation preparation. The assistant will work closely alongside the artist and another assistant on a variety of projects out of the artist's Mt.
Washington Studio
We are looking for someone with a strong studio art background who is detail‑oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working independently. The ideal candidate is someone who can carefully follow instructions, take initiative when working independently, and contribute thoughtfully to the day‑to‑day needs of an active studio practice.
Responsibilities- Assisting with the handling, preparation, and organization of delicate and finished artworks, particularly paper‑based works
- Supporting the fabrication and construction of sculptural works and mixed‑media projects
- Assisting with art installations, exhibition preparation, packing, and artwork transportation
- Maintaining organization, cleanliness, and overall functionality of the studio environment
- Documenting artwork through photography and assisting with basic photo editing and file organization
- Assisting with archival handling, storage systems, and artwork preservation (archival experience is a huge bonus)
- Providing general project support across multiple ongoing studio projects
- Experience working in a professional studio environment or strong background in fine arts, sculpture, printmaking, installation, or related disciplines
- Experience handling delicate artwork and understanding proper care for finished works
- Familiarity with paper‑based artwork handling and archival practices strongly preferred
- Ability to assist with physical fabrication and construction of sculptural or installation‑based work
- Comfortable lifting and moving heavy materials, artwork, and equipment
- Photography skills and experience with basic photo editing software are a plus
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical or process‑based instructions carefully
- Ability to work both collaboratively with a team and independently with minimal supervision
- Strong organizational skills and willingness to assist with a wide range of studio needs
- Must have access to a reliable vehicle and ability to travel to MT. Washington, MA
This is an excellent opportunity for an artist, fabricator, or arts professional interested in gaining experience within an active studio practice while contributing to the production and care of complex creative work. Work will end late October with the potential for remote work through the Winter Season.
