The Editor performs manuscript editing and publication preparation in support of the Army University Press (AUP) publishing mission. This is a Special Qualifications position under the PWS, responsible for editing assigned manuscripts for grammar, style, and tone; editing graphics for publication; obtaining Cataloging-in-Publication (CIP) data for book-length works; and laying out manuscripts for digital and hard-copy print publication.
Required Qualifications (PWS Section 1.11.a)- Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English, or an English concentration, required.
- 5-10 years of experience in manuscript editing and preparing documents for publication.
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Highly proficient with Adobe InDesign, for laying out the document.
- Highly proficient with Adobe Photoshop, for preparing photos to import into the layout.
- Highly proficient with Adobe Illustrator, for charts and maps (especially those composed in PowerPoint) to import into the layout.
- Highly proficient with Adobe Acrobat Professional, to create PDF versions of manuscripts for distribution and for downloading off the Army University Press website.
- Assist the Team Chief with cover design for published manuscripts.
- Coordinate with COR to receive AUP-required style and document format guidance during initial in-processing.
- Maintain records of illustration sourcing to ensure all graphics are free of copyright protection.
- Be prepared to edit two works simultaneously, as required.
- Deliver completed book projects and edited pages via email or DoD SAFE file transfer to the COR, per the applicable subtask requirements.
This is a non-personal services position. The Contractor furnishes all personnel, equipment, and materials necessary to perform the work, including equipment needed to support remote work when a remote arrangement is approved by the COR (PWS Sections 3.2, 4.1). The position does not require in-person daily presence at a government facility; personnel performing on-site work will be based at Army University Press facilities at Fort Leavenworth, KS.
