New York based production company, Hall & Mirrors, is looking for a creative social media video editor with a strong background in editing short-form social media content. We're specifically seeking someone who understands how to create content that feels current and engaging across social media platforms such as Instagram Reels, Tik Tok, and You Tube shorts. This role is best suited for someone with experience and a strong understanding of social-first editing, rather than traditional long-form editing, as most videos will be approximately 30-60 seconds in runtime and uploaded to various social media platforms.

Our production company will film all content and provide you with the raw video and audio files. You'll then transform that raw footage into polished, engaging, and entertaining social media content while following our creative direction. The right person should know how to identify the strongest moments, create an immediate hook, maintain viewers' attention, and give each video a platform-specific feel.

Portfolio quality and relevant social work are much more important to us than a traditional resume. We want to see work that feels current and demonstrates a genuine understanding of what makes short-form content grip the audience's attention. This is a paid freelance, remote opportunity. We are looking to bring someone on quickly and begin with one or two paid test projects using existing footage for one of our clients.

There is potential for consistent ongoing work if it's a strong creative fit. Pay is subject to your preferred rate structure and current freelance rate, whether hourly or project-based is negotiable. When applying, please include the following in your cover letter:

• Multiple examples of short-form social content you personally edited (At Least 2-3)
• A brief explanation of your role in those projects
• Editing and motion-graphics software you use
• Your availability (If outside of NYC, where are you located) and typical turnaround time
• Your hourly or project rate
• Whether you’re interested in ongoing freelance work

Responsibilities include:

• Reviewing raw footage and identifying the strongest moments for each edit
• Editing raw footage into engaging short-form social content utilizing the strongest moments, typically under 60 seconds
• Creating strong hooks and attention-grabbing openings
• Reworking pacing, structure, and cuts for different social platforms
• Adding music, captions, text, graphics, and visual effects
• Incorporating After Effects or motion graphics when appropriate
• Performing basic color correction or grading, audio cleanup, and sound mixing as needed
• Creating platform-specific thumbnails that align with each brand’s visual identity
• Adapting and exporting videos in the appropriate formats and aspect ratios for each platform
• Staying current with social media trends, editing techniques, and platform best practices
• Following creative direction while contributing original editing ideas
• Responding to feedback and completing revisions efficiently and on time
• Organizing and delivering final exports and project files

Ideal qualifications:

• Strong portfolio of Instagram Reels, Tik Tok, or other short-form social content
• A clear understanding of what makes viewers stop scrolling and continue watching
• Strong sense of pacing, music, storytelling, typography, and visual design
• Comfortable working independently while also meeting provided deadlines
• Organized, communicative, and receptive to creative direction from team
• Experience with commercial, branded, lifestyle, tech, or social media content is a plus
• Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, or comparable professional editing software
• English proficiency
