Overview (organization context)CSD is the largest nonprofit focused on cultivating opportunities for Deaf success. For over forty years, we have offered programs and services to educate Deaf people and the public, facilitate communication through technology, and support businesses with resources to hire Deaf employees. Our Telephone Relay Service (TRS) Call Centers connect Deaf or hard of hearing individuals with hearing individuals, via Communication Assistants who relay telephone calls.
Responsibilities- Facilitate phone calls between Deaf or hard of hearing individuals and hearing individuals as a Communication Assistant in our TRS Call Centers.
- Provide high-quality customer service and accurately relay information during calls.
- Support training and ongoing learning to operate our communication software and tools.
- Participate in upcoming training classes and adhere to schedule requirements.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to speak clearly and enunciate; use voice inflection, tone, and volume effectively
- Ability to read text aloud and transcribe spoken words to text on a computer
- Excellent grammar and spelling
- Ability to learn and understand complex computer communication software and shortcuts
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to call-volume fluctuations
- Ability to type and maintain accuracy under training requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 18 years of age or older
- Ability to type at 60 wpm (to graduate training) and 45 wpm with 90% accuracy to qualify for training
- Excellent customer service experience with a calm demeanor
- Ability to work various schedules including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays
- Must be able to pass skill assessments administered by a local recruiter
- Private and quiet office space with a closed door
- Hard-wired internet connection via ethernet cable
- High-speed internet connection (3.0 Mbps download, 1.2 Mbps upload)
Candidates for this role must live and work in Texas.
TrainingTraining is conducted online. Classes run Monday to Friday for 3 weeks, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Attendance to all training hours is required.
