This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
Department: Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00
Location: 3000 Arctic Boulevard
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.
To be considered for employment: candidates must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.
Core Responsibilities- Provide exceptional customer service in support of water and wastewater utility operations.
- Explain utility services, billing rates, and payment options to customers.
- Collect monthly payments, establish payment arrangements, and manage delinquent accounts.
- Assist customers with online account access.
- Coordinate field service appointments for on‑site work such as inspections, repairs, or key box locates.
- Use customer information systems such as KUBRA, Maximo, and service dispatch tools.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Three (3) years of experience in a customer service, collection, or accounting environment.
- Proficiency with customer information systems.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.
Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non‑AMEA candidates.
The Municipality of Anchorage participates in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security E‑verify Program.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office Background Check.
Military Service Interview PreferenceVeterans who wish to be considered for interview preference must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs indicating an honorable or general discharge. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving in the National Guard or organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference must attach proof of current service. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, unit of assignment, and the statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization.
The statement must be signed and include contact information of the signer. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
