Are you a motivated collections professional who thrives on problem-solving, negotiation, and driving results? We are seeking an experienced Collections Specialist to join a growing team focused on recovering outstanding balances while providing exceptional customer service.
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity for candidates seeking long-term career growth within a stable and expanding organization.
Position Overview As a Collections Specialist, you will manage a high-volume portfolio of business accounts, proactively contacting customers to collect outstanding balances, negotiate settlements, and resolve payment issues. The ideal candidate is resilient, self-motivated, and comfortable navigating challenging conversations while maintaining professionalism.
Key Responsibilities- Make an average of 80+ outbound collection calls daily to recover past-due balances.
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 200 to 600 accounts per week.
- Handle inbound calls generated from collection email campaigns.
- Contact customers via phone and email regarding outstanding balances.
- Negotiate payment arrangements and settle accounts when appropriate.
- Document customer interactions and account activity within the CRM system and spreadsheets.
- Conduct account research and investigations to identify payment solutions.
- Generate and submit daily activity and collection reports.
- Maintain compliance with company policies and collection regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
- Minimum 2-3 years of First-Party Collections experience with a strong emphasis on outbound calling.
- Working knowledge of collection laws and regulations, including the FDCPA and its purpose.
- Strong negotiation, investigation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to persuade customers and successfully collect balances over the phone.
- Strong listening skills and the ability to navigate difficult conversations professionally.
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Strong multitasking and organizational abilities.
- Ability to hardwire internet equipment when working remotely.
- Merchant services collections experience
- Business-to-business (B2B) collections experience
- Sales or negotiation experience
- Experience using Google Workspace (Google Docs, Sheets, Gmail, etc.)
- Fully on-site for the first 1-2 months of training.
- Upon successful completion of training and achievement of attendance, quality, and performance expectations, employees may transition to a hybrid schedule:
- 2-3 days on-site
- Remaining days remote

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Troy, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
