Position: Senior Interior Designer at Alice Benjamin Interiors Chicago, IL

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and creative Senior Interior Designer to lead interior design projects, from conceptual development through to execution. The ideal candidate is a visionary with excellent design skills, strong leadership abilities, and the capability to manage multiple high‑end residential projects. You will work closely with clients, collaborate with project teams, and ensure that designs meet both aesthetic and functional goals.

Key Responsibilities Project Management
  • Lead and manage interior design projects, ensuring they meet client expectations, timelines, and budgets.
  • Oversee all phases of design, including concept development, space planning, material selection, and installation.
  • Coordinate with contractors, architects, and other vendors to ensure successful project execution.
  • Review construction documentation and ensure design intent is carried through.
Design Development
  • Develop creative and innovative design concepts that align with client needs and project objectives.
  • Create detailed design presentations, including mood boards, color schemes, and material selections.
  • Prepare floor plans, elevations, and 3D visualizations with the team.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and products to introduce fresh ideas and cutting‑edge solutions.
Client Engagement
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct site visits and meetings with clients to discuss design options, progress, and feedback.
  • Present design concepts and solutions to clients, effectively communicating design rationale.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior designers, ensuring design quality and consistency across projects.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment, coordinating with internal design teams.
  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and provide feedback to ensure team productivity.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other professionals to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and contractors. Source high‑quality materials and negotiate pricing to meet project goals.
Budgeting;
Cost Management
  • Develop and manage project budgets, including cost estimation for materials, furnishings, and labor.
Qualifications & Skills

Education

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in interior design.
  • Proven experience leading projects from concept through completion.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of materials, finishes, furniture, and lighting design.
  • Space planning.
  • Experience with wallpaper, tile, and plumbing selections.
  • Experience designing kitchens and bathrooms.
