Fanning Howey creates learning environments throughout the country with our integrated team of architects, engineers, interior designers, and planners. We are seeking a Plumbing Systems Designer to join our Engineering team and contribute to the design of innovative, sustainable building systems that support our clients’ goals and architectural vision.
This role is ideal for a technically strong, collaborative designer who enjoys solving complex problems, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and seeing projects through from concept to construction. As a Plumbing Systems Designer, you will play a key role in developing code-compliant, high-quality plumbing systems across a variety of project types.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FORA Technically Skilled Designer: You bring experience designing plumbing systems and applying engineering principles, codes, and standards to develop practical, efficient solutions.
A Collaborative Team Player: You work well with architects, engineers, consultants, and clients, contributing to integrated design solutions and collaborative problem-solving.
Detail-Oriented and Quality-Focused: You value accuracy, constructability, and coordination, and understand how plumbing systems support overall building performance.
Comfortable Managing Multiple Projects: You can balance multiple assignments while meeting deadlines and maintaining consistent quality.
Committed to Learning and Growth: You stay current with industry trends, tools, and best practices and are willing to share knowledge with teammates.
WHAT YOU WILL DO- Design and coordinate plumbing systems in alignment with architectural intent, engineering requirements, and applicable codes
- Develop system layouts, perform calculations, and select equipment to support building performance goals
- Apply industry standards such as ASHRAE, ASPE, and local building codes
- Support sustainability initiatives, including LEED certification efforts
- Prepare and coordinate construction drawings using BIM/Revit
- Participate in interdisciplinary design coordination meetings
- Conduct site visits and support construction administration to verify conformance with design intent
- Manage multiple projects concurrently while meeting deadlines and quality standards
- Associate’s, technical, trade school, or bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 4–10+ years of related experience in plumbing system design preferred
- Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) registration preferred
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
