Position Summary

The Associate Designer contributes to the design and technical development of high-end residential projects while supporting the Project Manager in executing projects from concept through construction documentation.

This role requires a balance of creative design thinking and strong technical skills. The Associate Designer plays an active role in translating design concepts into coordinated drawings, assisting in consultant coordination, and contributing to the quality and consistency of the firm's documentation.

Working closely with senior staff, the Associate Designer helps advance the design vision of each project while gaining deeper experience in project delivery, construction detailing, and client communication.

Design Coordination & Project Collaboration
  • Contribute to design development through drawings, models, and visual studies.
  • Assist in refining design concepts into coordinated architectural documentation.
  • Participate in internal design reviews and project coordination meetings.
  • Support preparation of client presentations and design materials.
  • Assist with coordination between the project team, consultants, and contractors.
Technical Execution & Documentation
  • Produce design development and construction drawings using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Prepare drawing packages and incorporate revisions from senior staff.
  • Assist in coordinating drawings across disciplines to ensure consistency and constructability.
  • Utilize Morpholio and digital tools for markups, sketches, and design communication.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals under the supervision of the Project Manager.
Collaboration & Studio Culture
  • Work collaboratively with project teams to meet deadlines and maintain design quality.
  • Support junior team members through guidance and shared knowledge when appropriate.
  • Contribute to improving documentation standards, workflows, and studio processes.
Qualifications Education & Experience
  • Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
  • 3–7 years of professional experience, preferably in residential architecture.
  • Experience contributing to projects through multiple phases of design and documentation.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Competencies
  • Proficiency in Revit required.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Morpholio, and Bluebeam.
  • Strong understanding of residential construction methods and architectural detailing.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage tasks across multiple projects with guidance from senior staff.
  • Interest in continuing professional development toward architectural licensure.
Physical & Visual Requirements

To successfully perform the essential functions of this role, the employee must be able to:

  • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods while working at a computer or drafting table.
  • Move about the office and occasional job sites safely.
  • Use hands and fingers to operate computers and standard office equipment.
  • Visually interpret architectural drawings, models, and technical documentation.
  • Occasionally lift and transport drawings, models, or materials up to 25 pounds.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with project team members and consultants.
Mental Demands & Reasoning Abilities
  • Ability to balance creative problem solving with technical accuracy.
  • Manage multiple assignments while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Adapt to evolving project conditions and design feedback.
Work Environment
  • This is a 100% in-person role, with remote work permitted only under exceptional circumstances (i.e., illness, inclement weather). The work week is 45 hours.
  • Work is primarily performed in an open, collaborative studio setting conducive to teamwork and creative exchange.
  • Occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, and consultant offices may be required.
