Interior Designer II
Full‑time position within Kaplan Thompson Architects, a Portland, Maine firm dedicated to sustainable design and technical excellence. Candidates will collaborate with architects and designers on a range of residential and institutional projects, contributing to both pre‑design and project closeout.

- Generate architectural concepts and coordination drawings for interior projects, from concept to final details.
- Plan and design interior aspects of large or multiple projects, developing creative approaches and approaches to sustainable solutions.
- Provide subject‑matter expertise on specifications, materials, and construction methods.
- Develop and refine new or improved design techniques for complex assignments.
- Coordinate with senior designers and principals for technical solutions and strategy.
- Manage small, simple projects, ensuring adherence to budget and schedule.
- Present directly to clients on technical and design solutions.
- Assist in managing project communication and documentation.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on residential, commercial, and sustainability‑focused projects.
- Champion internal initiatives, share knowledge, and mentor junior staff.
- Monitor industry developments and incorporate sustainability throughout work.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, including certifications and conferences.
- Required: BArch or BS in Interior Architecture, 5+ years of experience, physical presence in office, ability to lift light packages.
- Preferred: NCIDQ certification (or on track), knowledge of healthy design products, vendor relationships, experience with Green Guard, CARB‑compliant, DECLARE products, and Red2
Green materials database.
- Required: 3D drafting with BIM (ArchiCAD, Revit, or equivalent).
- Preferred: Photo/video production, Mac proficiency, Microsoft Office, Gsuite, Adobe Creative Suite, Keynote or PowerPoint.
- Competitive salary based on AIA rates: $64,281–$81,485 for uncertified professionals; $70,066–$88,819 for NCIDQ‑certified professionals.
- Annual paid vacation (3 weeks) and paid holidays (10 days, including floating holidays).
