Landscape Architect/Planner II Or III
A dynamic and full-service land development engineering, landscape architecture, and planning firm is seeking a Landscape Architect/Planner II or III to join their talented team in Fairfax, VA. The firm works with commercial, residential, and government clients to provide innovative Land Development solutions. The successful candidate will assist in various project phases, focusing on graphic development and technical documentation, employing problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills to excel in the role.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project team members to guide and shape the design and delivery of projects across different scales and types.
- Assist in the preparation of design and construction drawings for landscape and general site designs, including layout, grading, and hardscape.
- Work closely with senior team members to create conceptual designs using a variety of hand-drawn and digital techniques.
- Participate in team design charettes, contributing thoughts and ideas.
- Enhance skills and efficiencies in design platforms such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Sketch Up, and Adobe Suite.
- Prepare digital graphics and renderings using Adobe Creative Suite and presentation software.
- Provide graphic design, technical production, urban and landscape design, and site planning support for diverse projects, including mixed-use residential developments, streetscapes, parks, and community facilities.
- Stay informed about local, state, and federal design standards and regulations to ensure compliance.
- Maintain an excellent understanding of planting design and plant materials suitable for the project region.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control of your work before submission to senior team members.
- Assist in the design and development of models in AutoCAD and Sketch Up.
- Learn from previous design efforts to build skillsets and introduce new technologies and programs to assist in achieving project goals.
Essential Skills
- 3-8+ years of experience in landscape architecture and design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (Civil 3D is a plus), Sketch Up, and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
- Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or a related discipline.
- Licensure in Landscape Architecture is preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 3-8 years of work experience within the Northern Virginia region; specific experience within Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Arlington, Stafford, and Culpeper Counties is preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of place-making in both urban and suburban settings.
- Experience with feasibility studies, yield studies, zoning analyses, due diligence checklists, and identifying potential site constraints and remedies.
- Experience in preparing design guidelines, master zoning plans, generalized development plans, and conceptual and/or final development plans.
- Working knowledge of the entitlement process, including applications for rezonings, special use permits, special exceptions, and special permits.
Work Environment
The firm operates on a variety of projects, primarily focusing on residential communities and commercial developments in all phases. The team consists of 36 individuals split across four teams, each supporting different project types. The office environment is fast-paced and collaborative, with a flexible schedule allowing for remote work opportunities once proficiency is demonstrated. This is a Permanent position based out of Vienna, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
