Senior Interior Designer | Luxury Residential Design

This is an excellent opportunity for a creative and self‑motivated Senior Interior Designer to join a collaborative team.

Job Summary

Interprets, organizes and executes the conceptual design of a project. Utilizes creativity, foresight and judgment to meet project requirements and objectives through project completion.

Responsibilities

Leadership – Conducts programming efforts such as space planning, layout and utilization of furnishings and equipment, lighting and color coordination. Develops innovative design concepts which are practical, aesthetic, safe and conducive to intended purposes and function, reflective of client goals and within project budget.

Design & Project Management – Implements all phases of a design project which includes contracts, budgeting, scheduling, planning, design, documentation, specifications and construction, including the selection and specification of furniture. Maintains positive client relationships throughout the project, keeps the client apprised of progress on a regular basis, and initiates and maintains contracts with key project individuals for clarification, coordination and negotiation of critical issues.

Construction Administration – Leads the Construction Administration phase, responding to RFIs, COs, reviewing shop drawings and participating in field site reviews. Manages the project using Deltek Vision, completing work plans, identifying team members, budgets, consultants, schedules, fees and labor costs, and handling project change notices. Holds responsibility for the financial outcome of projects and implements HOK Standards for all processes.

Document Preparation – Renders conceptual design ideas and prepares 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings. Updates documents during schematic design, design development and construction administration phases. Coordinates color and material palettes, solicits bids, and assists the Project Manager and client in subcontracting fabrication, installation, and arrangement of materials, finishes and furnishings. Produces written documentation related to the project using HOK standard formats and reviews documents for adherence to building and ADA codes.

Oversees coordination and quality assurance of documents to ensure delivery of the project or phase.

Teamwork & Communication – Communicates with consultants, contractors, sub‑consultants and other disciplines to ensure project details are carried out. May assist in design presentations, help senior staff keep phases on schedule, and provide support to team members for specific field, style or phase expertise. Develops and maintains positive relationships with consultants, contractors and jurisdictional/approval agencies. Fosters a commitment to external and internal client service.

Client Interface & Strategy – Represents client in obtaining bids and awarding construction contracts. May assist with negotiating fees and contracts.

Staff Development & Business Development – Mentors and directs the work of less experienced staff, participates in interviews and recruiting of professional staff, and assists in recruiting professional staff. Explores and identifies new opportunities to add or enhance professional services with existing clients and participates in selected marketing and business development activities.

Education & Experience

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design or a foreign equivalent. Prior experience in interior projects is required. Must be a professional Interior Designer who has passed the NCIDQ exam, or be a registered Architect with a current license. If a registered Architect, NCARB registration is preferred. A LEED credential is required within 12 months of employment.
