The NC Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) is the state government agency created to conserve and sustain the state's fish and wildlife resources through research, scientific management, wise use and public input. The NCWRC is the regulatory agency responsible for the enforcement of North Carolina's fishing, hunting, trapping, and boating laws. The agency has an operational budget of approximately $100 million and employs approximately 700 full-time staff and 100 seasonal temporary staff across the state, including wildlife and fisheries biologists and technicians, wildlife law enforcement officers, wildlife educators, communication specialists, and customer service, information technology and administrative professionals.

The NCWRC Mission is to conserve North Carolina's wildlife resources and their habitats and provide programs and opportunities that allow hunters, anglers, boaters, and other outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy wildlife-associated recreation.

Helene Restoration Division The Wildlife Resources Commission (WRC) is charged by General Statute 113-132 with the management, regulation, protection, and conservation of wildlife resources and inland fisheries in North Carolina. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, western North Carolina's forests, watersheds, and wildlife habitats sustained significant ecological damage. In response, NCWRC has established a 10-year time-limited division to lead a comprehensive, multi-year effort focused on ecological stabilization, species recovery, and long-term resilience.

This division is responsible for the implementation of ecological restoration and infrastructure recovery across aquatic species, terrestrial species, habitat, genetics, infrastructure, and invasive species programs in close coordination with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and other partners. Engineer III duties include:
Schematic Design and design development for boating and fishing access areas. Permit application development and coordination with Regulatory. Construction drawings and grading plans. Material takeoffs & Specifications and Engineer's Estimate. Engineering assessment, design and assistance with game lands projects. Bidding of projects not done with in-house WRC staff.

This position is based in the mountain region but may also have statewide responsibilities, with assignments and projects across the state. The incumbent in this position will be provided with WRC uniforms. The workstation for this position is in the employee's home-based office using an agency-provided computer. The employee in this position is expected to provide home office space compliant with WRC and State policies.

The employee will be HOME BASED and is required to reside in the Mountain Region (west of I-77). This is TIME LIMITED position that ends September 2035. Recruitment Range: $ 70,478 - $110,000.

• Employee must be a licensed Professional Engineer and be registered with the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (or transferred within 6 months of employment).
• Knowledge of the principles, practices, and theories of construction/civil engineering.
• Knowledge of codes, laws and regulatory requirements pertaining to design, construction, and renovation of access facilities.
• Knowledge of engineering design, construction management or general construction.
• Experience utilizing AutoCAD or similar design software.

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
