We are looking for a part time construction designer to help us on a large architectural project where we are installing many different custom LED Art installations into a new 3 story building.
Scope:Part Time (~5-15 hours per week, part remote, with some office visits for in person sessions)
Compensation:$50-100/hour (based on experience, open to negotiation)
Location:Bay Area CA Preferred
We have been building custom art installations for many years - but are relatively new to working in a more structured construction environment with a GC and electrical contractors, and specifying documents that those entities can use to provide proper building infrastructure. We create build and electrical system documents for our own internal use, but really taking them to the next level for presentation to professional GCs/contractors is what we are looking for.
We are also looking for some help in translating how these installations will be constructed to a construction team of general fabricators.
An example of an issue we need help solving is: we have an art installation that is designed, but we need to figure out how to mount it onto an existing structure, how to run electrical and wiring through building walls and framing, and how to communicate that to GCs, electricians, and the team that will install it on site.
The ideal candidate for this job is located in the California Bay Area and (in addition to remote work) can come to our office in Person for 1-2 working sessions a month between August and January 2027.
The role involves collaborating with artists, engineers, GCs, fabricators, and electricians and involves reviewing installation designs, technical documentation and BOMs.
We can share more information about the project with qualified candidates.

- Experience working on architectural, exhibit, stage, or public art projects, with an understanding of materials, fabrication processes, and installation methods.

- Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in remote, cross-functional teams including artists, engineers, and fabricators.
- Attention to safety, regulatory considerations, and durability for both indoor and outdoor installations.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience using Autodesk Revit a big plus
