Hager Smith Design, PA is seeking a driven and collaborative Project Architect to join our homegrown, multi-disciplined design team in Raleigh’s Warehouse District.

The Project Architect will work across multiple commercial projects, including office, industrial, lab, retail, and medical facilities. This role is centered in a collaborative environment and involves contributing to all phases of the design process—from early programming and conceptual design through construction documentation and administration.

This is a fast-paced, team-oriented position ideal for someone who is eager to grow professionally while leading and mentoring team members. This role is well-suited for a licensed architect who enjoys technical leadership, client communication, consultant coordination, and construction administration across commercial and industrial project types.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail
• Proven ability to solve problems and think creatively in a collaborative team environment
• Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, or other BIM programs
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
• Strong time management, prioritization, and organizational skills
• Experience with Sketch Up; rendering software (V-Ray, Enscape, Lumion) preferred
• Experience with architectural and construction CSI specifications
• Ability to anticipate, troubleshoot, and resolve design or construction challenges effectively

• 10 years of experience in commercial architecture, 5+ years of registered architectural experience preferred
• Active Architectural Registration (North Carolina preferred but not required)
• Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited program
• Must submit three or more references from previous employment, with titles and companies listed
• No work visa sponsorship available, must be able to commute to work

• Lead all phases of commercial design projects, from programming and conceptual design through construction documentation, bidding, and construction administration
• Direct and mentor project teams, ensuring alignment with project goals, budgets, and client expectations
• Oversee quality control and ensure cohesive design execution across all deliverables
• Review work in progress and monitor project budgets to support profitability
• Apply expertise in design principles, building codes, and contract documentation
• Collaborate closely with junior staff and project managers to maintain overall project quality
• Communicate with clients to understand project goals, budgets, and expectations
• Develop floor plans, details, and specifications that support design intent and technical integration
• Conduct site visits, field measurements, punch lists, and respond to RFIs and submittals
• Perform QA/QC reviews on project documents and specifications
• Serve as a key point of contact for design, code, and construction-related questions
