Penguin Recruitment are delighted to be working with a well-established planning consultancy who are looking to add a Graduate Town Planner to their growing team in Bury St Edmunds.

This is a great opportunity for a recent Planning graduate looking to take the next step in their career and gain genuine exposure to a broad range of planning projects.

One of the key attractions of this role is the flexible hybrid working arrangement, with the successful candidate working 4 days from home and just 1 day per week in the Bury St Edmunds office.

The consultancy works across a variety of sectors, providing planning advice on projects throughout the UK. As a Graduate Town Planner, you will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced planners and gain exposure to the full planning process.

• Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications
• Undertaking planning policy research and site appraisals
• Preparing planning statements and supporting documentation
• Assisting with pre-application submissions
• Liaising with local planning authorities and other consultants
• Monitoring planning applications and providing updates to clients
• Supporting senior planners with planning advice and development strategies
• Attending site visits and client meetings
• Keeping up to date with relevant planning policy and legislation

• A degree in Town Planning or a related subject
• Ideally an RTPI-accredited degree or be working towards RTPI membership
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Good attention to detail and organisational skills
• A genuine interest in pursuing a career within private-sector planning
• The ability to work independently as well as part of a wider team
• Previous planning experience through a placement or internship would be advantageous, but is not essential
