ABOUT UNIELCARE
Unielcare is a new telehealth platform, connecting families of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities to specialized healthcare consultants. We are building a network of expert professionals who provide accessible, high-quality virtual consultations to families across Maryland.
Our mission is to eliminate barriers to care by providing families with timely access to specialists who understand the unique challenges of raising children with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and other neurological and developmental conditions.

POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking experienced Child Neurologists to join our founding consultant team. This is an independent contractor opportunity offering complete schedule flexibility, competitive compensation, and the ability to build your own virtual consultancy practice without overhead costs.
As a founding team member, you will provide virtual neurology consultations to families of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, focusing on:
  • Neurological evaluation and diagnostic consultation
  • Seizure disorder management and epilepsy consultation
  • Headache and migraine assessment and treatment planning
  • Developmental delay and regression evaluation
  • Movement disorder assessment and management
  • Neurodevelopmental disorder consultation
  • Medication management and optimization
  • Second opinion consultations for complex neurological conditions
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Consultation Services
  • Conduct comprehensive virtual neurological evaluations and assessments
  • Provide diagnostic consultations for seizure disorders, developmental delays, and neurological conditions
  • Review neuroimaging studies, EEG results, and other diagnostic testing
  • Develop treatment plans and medication management recommendations
  • Monitor treatment efficacy and adjust interventions through follow-up consultations
  • Provide second opinions on complex neurological diagnoses and treatment plans
  • Document consultations in accordance with medical standards and HIPAA requirements
Seizure and Epilepsy Management
  • Evaluate new-onset seizures and seizure-like events
  • Review seizure classification and epilepsy syndrome diagnosis
  • Optimize antiepileptic medication regimens for seizure control
  • Provide guidance on seizure safety and emergency management
  • Discuss treatment options including medications, dietary therapy, and potential surgical candidates
  • Monitor for medication side effects and drug interactions
  • Coordinate care with epilepsy monitoring units and neurosurgical teams when appropriate
Developmental and Neurobehavioral Consultation
  • Assess developmental delays and developmental regression
  • Evaluate children with autism spectrum disorder for neurological comorbidities
  • Provide consultation on neurodevelopmental disorders and genetic conditions
  • Address behavioral issues with neurological underpinnings
  • Evaluate cognitive concerns and learning difficulties
  • Assess attention and executive function from neurological perspective
  • Coordinate evaluation for metabolic and genetic testing when indicated
Headache and Pain Management
  • Evaluate acute and chronic headache patterns in children and adolescents
  • Diagnose migraine, tension-type headaches, and other headache disorders
  • Develop comprehensive headache management plans including medications and lifestyle modifications
  • Provide guidance on headache triggers and prevention strategies
  • Monitor treatment response and adjust management plans
  • Identify red flag symptoms requiring urgent evaluation
Movement Disorder Assessment
  • Evaluate abnormal movements, tics, tremors, and dystonia
  • Assess gait abnormalities and coordination difficulties
  • Provide consultation on management of movement disorders in children
  • Differentiate neurological movement disorders from behavioral phenomena
  • Recommend appropriate diagnostic workup and referrals when needed
Medication Management
  • Optimize medication regimens for neurological conditions
  • Monitor for medication side effects and adverse reactions
  • Manage drug interactions in children with multiple medical conditions
  • Provide guidance on medication tapering and discontinuation when appropriate
  • Educate families on medication administration, storage, and safety
Family Education and Counseling
  • Explain neurological diagnoses and their implications in understandable terms
  • Provide prognosis information and realistic expectations
  • Educate families on natural history of neurological conditions
  • Discuss genetic implications and recurrence risks when appropriate
  • Guide families on when to seek emergency care
  • Provide resources for condition-specific support and advocacy organizations
Collaboration and Coordination
  • Coordinate care with primary care physicians and other specialists
  • Communicate with local neurologists for complex cases requiring in-person evaluation
  • Collaborate with neurosurgeons, geneticists, and rehabilitation specialists
  • Provide neurology expertise for multidisciplinary care teams

Position Requirements
Doctorate, 3+ Years work experience
Clinical Experience
  • Minimum two years post-fellowship experience in child neurology
  • Expertise in common pediatric neurological conditions including seizure disorders, headaches, and developmental delays
  • Experience managing children with complex medical needs and multiple comorbidities
  • Proficiency interpreting EEG, neuroimaging (MRI, CT), and other neurological studies
  • Comfort with telemedicine neurological examination techniques
Technical Requirements
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection
  • Private, HIPAA-compliant space for virtual consultations
  • Computer with webcam and audio capabilities
  • Access to secure systems for reviewing neuroimaging and diagnostic studies
  • Proficiency with telemedicine platforms and remote neurological assessment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced Training and Expertise
  • Fellowship training in pediatric epilepsy
  • Additional training in neurodevelopmental disabilities
  • Clinical neurophysiology board certification
  • Expertise in neurogenetics or metabolic neurology
  • Training in headache medicine
  • Movement disorders fellowship or specialized experience
  • Neuromuscular medicine expertise
  • Experience with ketogenic diet or dietary therapies for epilepsy
Specialized Clinical Experience
  • Extensive epilepsy management experience including complex partial seizures, infantile spasms, and refractory epilepsy
  • Expertise in autism spectrum disorder and co-occurring neurological conditions
  • Experience with genetic and metabolic neurological disorders
  • Advanced headache and migraine management skills
  • Experience with movement disorders in children including tics, dystonia, and chorea
  • Neuromuscular disorder assessment and management
  • Experience with neurodevelopmental regression and evaluation
  • Expertise in neurological manifestations of genetic syndromes
  • Experience interpreting video EEG monitoring and long-term EEG studies
Research and Academic Experience
  • Published research in pediatric neurology
  • Experience in clinical trials for pediatric neurological conditions
  • Academic appointment at medical school or teaching hospital
  • Presentations at national neurology conferences
  • Participation in neurology professional organizations
Additional Skills
  • Bilingual capabilities (Spanish, Amharic, Mandarin, American Sign Language)
  • Experience with telemedicine neurology prior to this opportunity
  • Strong communication skills for explaining complex medical information
  • Public speaking or medical education experience
  • Cultural competency and experience with diverse patient populations
  • Collaborative approach to multidisciplinary care
