Physician - Chief Geriatrics

Overview

The Chief of Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) is a physician who works under the leadership and direction of the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) for Medicine Service (MS) at the Tomah VAMC in Tomah, WI. The Chief will provide administrative and clinical oversight and will be actively involved in the decisions that support the function and goals of the GEC areas.

This position encompasses the Community Living Centers located in GEC as well as Home Based Primary Care (HBPC). Providers in GEC are responsible for inpatient care, Home Based Primary Care panels, graduate medical education, and scientific research as appropriate. This position will provide oversight to Geriatric Medicine in the GEC Service Line.

• The Chief will provide administrative and clinical oversight and will be actively involved in decisions that support the function and goals of the GEC areas.

• Providers in GEC are responsible for inpatient care, Home Based Primary Care panels, graduate medical education, and scientific research as appropriate.
• Provide oversight to Geriatric Medicine in the GEC Service Line.
• Be available as a backup provider for the Hospitalist/Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) and participate in a standard rotation for coverage when needed.
• Demonstrate knowledge of acute illness, complex chronic diseases, mental illnesses, and end-of-life care.
• Be familiar with administrative procedures, quality measurement, regulations related to the practice of medicine, Long-Term Care Standards, The Joint Commission, Long-Term Care surveying bodies and other regulatory standards pertinent to Geriatrics and Extended Care.

• Board certification in Geriatric Medicine is preferred.
• Clinical experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals; ability to lead and direct work of others.
• Knowledge of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures relevant to Geriatrics and Extended Care.

Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm or 7:30am - 4:00pm
