The WWAMI School of Medical Education is a collaboration among 6 universities in five northwestern states (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho) and the University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM), leading to a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. The University of Alaska, Anchorage (UAA) hosts the first 18 months or Foundations phase of the UWSOM medical curriculum for Alaskan students before they go onto their clerkship phase which can occur anywhere throughout the WWAMI regions.

We are looking for energetic enthusiastic physicians or surgeons with 51% time available to teach foundational clinical skills at UAA.

Applicants should hold a MD, DO or equivalent, be Board Certified and have 5 years of clinical practice experience in a primary care or other broad based medical specialty (e.g Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Rheumatology, Palliative Care, Nephrology, Hospitalist, General Surgery, etc.). You must enjoy teaching early medical learners the foundations of clinical skills in both simulated and hospital-based live patient settings.

The ability to collaborate with others is essential, this is a team taught curriculum which is provided from the UWSOM. Previous teaching experience, especially with medical learners, is a definite bonus.

Minimum Qualifications
  • MD or DO at time of hire.
  • Education, training and experience in a primary care field of medicine are preferred. Prior experience and involvement with the WWAMI program is preferred.
  • Hospital privileges or the ability to obtain the same is required.
Position Details

This is a part-time, term-funded, union represented, 9 month per year faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Salary is based on experience.
